Or maybe something surprisingly cute. For example if she reads the newspaper everyday, (a specific section), put the question in the newspaper. Or create a bill on-line have it sent to her and when she opens it with an attitude, she'll be surprised to see your question on the fake bill instead. Or you can surprise her at work in front of her co-workers, she'll really love that. She'll be blushing and smiling at least a month off of that one. Maybe make the announcement at a club over the mic or speaker phone. Like I said, be unique and loud or surprisingly quiet. Either way, (including the one knee), you'll make her heart aflutter.

I know someone else who got taken for a meal and the guy had set the ring into an ice cube that he then popped into her drink without her knowing.
i got taken to a fabulously expensive hotel and he got down on one knee at sun set in the amphitheatre in the hotel grounds . ( god even I hadnt realised how romantic he had been)
as for the doing it at a party etc.. only do that if you know the person VERY well . I would have DIED if my partner had done that ..
having said that, why on earth would someone be proposing unless they knew that person very well?!
Here's a good one.Rent an airplane carrying a sign that says 'will you marry me?' and have it fly over someplace that you will be. I actually know a guy that did this and it melted my heart.

One really sweet story I heard was this: A guy took his girl out to a restaurant, they were eating, then all of a sudden, this guy comes onto the stage and says that they are going to play a real life Cinderella game. So he gets this glass slipper and gets all the women to try it on. It doesn't fit any of them, then it gets to the girl. It fits her perfectly, so some random came up and gave her a tiara and a bunch of flowers, as well as a scroll. She opened the scroll and read it. It said "xxx (name), you have been my princess for x years now, will you be my queen?" and when she put the scroll down, her man was down on one knee with a diamond ring.
I love it because he went to sooo much effort, and got the whole place in on it. A lot of thought went into it, and that's what's important.
