is tuna healthy for my pregnant wife?!

Question:

Answers:
According to the latest recommendations by the FDA, pregnant women can safely eat up to 12 ounces of a variety of fish a week. Canned tuna is one of the most commonly consumed types of fish with low mercury levels according to the FDA. Pregnant and nursing women can safely consume albacore as one of their fish choices. The new advisory tells pregnant women they can safely eat up to six ounces of albacore a week (an average sandwich contains 2 ounces).

I don't know but I'm glad you care about her and her baby. Good luck!

not in large doses.

You should talk to your doctor. But limit the amount of fish intake because there is mercury in fish.

if she is craving for it it is!

if it is from the 4 food groups it probably is.

Your wife can eat tuna but only say one small tin in a blue moon because of the mercury content in Tuna. I ate it occasionally whilst I was pregnant.

Yes,once or twice a week.

There is a risk of high Mercury levels.

I read alot when I was pregnant.

Tuna is healthy for EVERYONE! Don't give her the fat free stuff.

she probably feels like a whale already without adding more fish to her bathing pool.

NO! Tuna should be avoided by all pregnant women due to the amount of mercury in them. It's a fairly small amount that our bodies can handle, but a baby's can't. She should avoid salmon too.

Tuna should be consumed sparingly when pregnant. I believe tuna has a higher content of mercury than other fish. But, keep in mind .. that if you are concerned with the mercury affecting your baby while your wife is pregnant you might want to be careful of the vaccinations your baby receives.

I would advise her to stay away from it entirely. Albacore tuna (that's the white tuna) has high levels of mercury. The cheaper tuna (yellowfin) also has mercury problems, but less than albacore. If she really has a craving for it, she shouldn't eat it more than once a week. Avoid swordfish too, its far worse than tuna for mercury levels.

No. The child might get autism, from the stuff inside the tuna.

Even though the "nurse" on here says that its ok to have Tuna, the research is truly conflicting. Doctors are going back and forth between eating seafood and not eating seafood while pregnant. Honestly, listen to the people on here that say NO!! Don't let your wife eat seafood! While I am sure that really nothing is safe to eat these days, I wouldn't even want the smallest possibility that my child could get autism. The lead counts in fish are very high and this is not suitable for someone who is pregnant. There are significant studies that prove lead is a factor in autism. While the "nurse" says yes, I am definitely saying no.

i think you are only supposed to eat so much a week, i would check with your doctor

Yes, in moderation. It is very good for the develpoment of the baby's brain. High mercury fish such as shark and swordfish should be limited to twice a month, but tuna is all good!

Tuna has a lower amount of mercury then most fish. Some seafood is good, and some are not. Rinse it well though as the can it comes in is not overly healthy to eat from.
