Is charging fair for missed appointments?!

Question:
Is it really fair for doctors offices to charge for missed appointments? What about missing work or arranging daycare to make an appointment and the doctor's office calls to reschedule, can I charge them for that? I have two small children and in Ohio the streets are constantly being worked on, so it's easy to be late and in case of an emergency, missed. I don't think it's necessarily fair.
Answers:
NO it isn't fair at all. Especially at My Doc's. They over-schedule their patients and I end up waiting sometimes 2-3 hours. Pay ME for friggin' waiting!

ASK some of the other people waiting---everybody has a 9 'o'clock

lol are you from toledo ohio? cuz our streets are being worked on rididulously here.yeah the whole charge thing is kinda dumb to me..if they cancel our appt's then we should get 45 dollars off our visit :D

Professionals are scheduling you with appointments and thus cannot schedule others. If you cancel at the last minute, that equates to lost wages for them, so yeah, its fair.

Secondly, if its easy to be late, you should be able to compensate and leave earlier. Common courtesy and self responsibilty.

Hey, you are the one that accepted the doctor's terms when you made the appointment. It may not be right to do it, but since both parties agreed to it (and guess what, by making the appointment knowing that the doc would charge you if you missed it, you agreed to it) then it certainly is fair.

i don't think it's fair either. I also live in Ohio and have dr.s cancel on me plenty of times. They don't reimburse me for paying a babysitter and driving there. But if my daughter bets sick or my husband accidentally takes the car with the car seat to work, they charge me!

I told my Dr. that I would pay the missed appointment charge if he would pay me a fair amount of money for every hour I have to wait in the office after my appointment time has passed! He has never charged me since!!
