How can I get this back-hand-spring down?!

Question:
I originally was going to start a tumbling class tonight, but it was cancelled due to the fact that I was the only student. Are there any excercises or techniques that I can try OUTSIDE of a gym? Thanks guys.
Answers:
buy a trampoline so you can practice at home.
or start with simple back walk overs to become really flexible.

hope this helped

My 8 yr old daughter has been on the verge of mastering hers for a while now. We went to a back-hand-spring/back tuck class in Shreveport LA a couple of weeks ago and she learned some things that helped her tremendously. The main thing was that if your shoulder angle is not right when you land, you risk serious neck injury. Your arms should be at same angle as your body. a straight line. A 180 degree angle. If you land with your shoulders ar a 45 degree angle, your muscles that support you at that angle are not physically capable of supporting any weight at all. Therefore, you hit your head or neck. Since my daughter has learned this, she has improved a lot. It has also made her trust herself to land it right. It's helped with her mental block. The instructors told her the way to practice this and build strength is to flip up into a handstand in front of a block of some sort (my daughter uses the bed). While you are in a handstand with your back to the bed, let your legs come down behind you and your feet rest on the bed. Kind of like a backbend with your feet higher. Then practice kicking over. THE INSTRUCTORS EMPHASIZED DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT! YOU MUST HAVE A SPOTTER AT ALL TIMES. ALSO, DO NOT DO IT UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN SUPPORT YOURSELF IN A HANDSTAND. Be Safe! Hope this helps!
