Lump on right side of neck! Help!?!

Well, i have a lump on the right side of my neck. It doesn't feel very large, probably about 1/2 of a fingernail. However, I was wondering if this could be serious or nothing to worry about. Please help! I have school tomorrow and i have no idea if i should get it checked out. Thank you.

It is probably a swollen lymph node if it is under the angle of the mandile (corner of the jaw, and in front of the sternoclediomastoid muscle (the one from the bottom of the back of the ear (the mastoid bone) that goes down to the middile of the sternum (breastbone) at the notch. Check to see if when you crane your neck forward the lump is just in front of the muscle that becomes prominent as you push your head forward - if so it increases the likelihood it is a harmless lymph node swelling - not all lymph node enlargements are harmless though (and it will need to be seen by a physician). Harmless causes include reactive lymph node from tonisllitis, viral pharyiogitis, cystic acne chanegs, tooth infections and more.
Other masses in the neck include thyroid masses (cysts and tumors) salivary masses (inferior parotid gland or submandibular gland, epidermal inclusion cysts and more.
I think the biggest reason to see a docotr is to make sure an alien spider did not lay eggs under your skin in that area while you were sleeping last night. (just kidding)

It's probably a lymph node, I bet you have one on the other side of your neck too. They become enlarged when you are sick.
you may have just a swollen lymph node. which could mean your getting sick, but fyi if your in the midwest the mumps are going around. even people with current MMR's are getting it, it's not a super serious illness, but will make you really sick. If you are in college go to student health, with finals now, you could just be rundown. take care.

It could be a lymph node (you might be coming down with something), or it could be your thyroid (a simple blood test). But, yes, get it checked out.
i have one too, and i asked my friends about it and they said they have one too
Thyrods could be enlarged.. due to illness, usually cold or virus
