Define "recommended"? That's more a matter of personal preference and social norms than anything else. In some cultures it might be considered acceptable to have 2-3 glasses a day, but here in the US someone who drinks more than 2-3 a week might be perceived to have an alcohol addiction problem. More than one a day is cause for some serious self-examination.
