What type of proccedure would a Colonoscopy be considered?!
Question: What type of proccedure would a Colonoscopy be considered.?
My husband needs to get this done & I need to sign up for a health insurance that will cover it. It will be done in the hospital. Is that considered 'Hospital Outpatient' .?.?.?
Like I said I am trying to figure out if it will be covered by the insurance, but I do not have the insurance yet. Thanks!Health Question & Answer

yes, it is an outpatient procedure because he will not be staying overnight at the hospital but returning home after the procedureHealth Question & Answer
From experience, I know this is covered by insurance. This is done in a hospital setting because an anesthesiologist will administer something to totally knock him out (sleep) until the procedure is finished. Then you sit beside his bed until he awakens and you drive him home. The procedure is simple; I call it the 'flashlight up the butt' which is appropriate because it is a light and viewing camera on the end of a long flexible tube inserted up the anus well into the intestinal track. Awake, it is painful and stressful (similar to a smygmoid...something or other). This is usually done once in a 10 year period only.Health Question & Answer
THE PROCEDURE IS CONSIDERED INVASIVE,VERY LOW RISK DIAGNOSTIC. THIS IS AN OUT PATIENT PROCEDURE. POST PROCEDURE YOUR HUSBAND WILL NEED A RIDE HOME AS THE DRUG VERSED IS WIDELY USED FOR SEDATION.Health Question & Answer
