Can being diabetic cause erectile dysfunction in a man?!

Question: Can being diabetic cause erectile dysfunction in a man.?
I've been dating someone who hasn't dated in quite a few years due to his work schedule, but has fooled around with a coworker during those past years. He says sex isn't what attracts him to a woman and says its more "mental". We haven't had sex but we have played around and he didn't get an erection. I was wondering if his being diabetic could cause erectile dysfunction and he was too embarrassed to talk about it.... maybe that's why he brought up that sex wasn't a big deal to him.? What do you think.?Health Question & Answer

this man you are dating has 2 reasons to get erectile dyfunction. 1- Diabetes 2- mental stress (if he is so involved in work)Health Question & Answer

absolutely as diabetes effects the lining of the capillaries which is the "bottom line" of the circulatory system. As diabetes is what is called a systemic disease, the effects can cause problems with many other parts of the body as well.

If there are other systemic illnesses such has hypertension, vascular disease, or if the person is a smoker, the effects of the diabetes will increase significantly.

You do not say how old this person is, whether they are over weight etc which all can contribute. Keep in mind that as this is a systemic process meaning entire body effected, his over health may not be optimal.Health Question & Answer

Yes, in several ways. Diabetes causes problems with circulation, which creates an erection. Diabetes is also shown to have an effect on testosterone which can reduce a man's sex drive.

So it may take more work to get him worked up, so to speak.

Hopefully he is managing his diabetes and getting regular exercise. If so, its possible to increase blood flow, plus he'll relax and if necessary there are reputable medications or treatments for EDHealth Question & Answer

it certainly can affect ed but so do most of the drugs used to treat diabetes and its associated conditions ie hypertension andheart disease.. depends a bit on how old he is and how long hes had diabetes but over time high sugars and cholesterol damage nerves and blood supply to the penis.. if u love him sit down and talk to him about it.. viagra etc will work a bit if thats the problem.. but he could also be telling u the truth so start with a heart to heart convoHealth Question & Answer

Diabetiese can cause erectile dysfunction. But you can't know for sure that's what it was. Don't worry about it, and don't judge him.
It's probably just because he's older. That's all.
