Do people know about acetaminophen?

Question:
Do people realize that if they try to OD on acetaminophen that they could die from LIVER FAILURE!! Don't do this, liver failure is a horrible way to die. You basically waste away in your own toxins. I have taken care of so many people and those that have had liver transplants.. Please be careful!

Answer:
Unfortunately, that's the problem with drugs that are readily available over the counter. People think that since it's available without a prescriptin and without a pharmacists intervention that it's safe to take.
A drug is a drug is a drug. It frustrates me when there are claims on TV and advertisements about a "natural product" that is completely "SIDE EFFECT FREE". If a product is side effect free, they're basically saying that the product does nothing. The reason why we take certain drugs is because when we take the chemicals into our body, we get a certain side effect. These side effects can be good (ie: pain relief) or bad (ie: liver toxicity).

With acetaminophen, toxicity has become a bigger problem as more and more cold remedies include it for no good reason...so a person might pick up acetaminophen for a fever, get NeoCitron for other symptoms (which contains acetaminophen) and a cough syrup that contains acetaminophen.....causing an overdose.
This stresses the importance of pharmacists - they're free, provide great advice and can be found 24hours a day usually!
I don't know about everyone...but I knew that acetaminophen causes liver damage.
I am trying to spread the word. Do you know how many times I have been reported for telling people it is toxic. People just do not believe it.

I really thing the government should pull acetaminophen from the market place.
I think that most people have the basic common sense to know that if they try to overdose on anything, the results are not going to be good. There are warnings about liver problems resulting from the use of this drug on the back of Tylenol bottles, but I don't think that occasional use is that bad for you. There are many more things that are abused more frequently with equally devastating effects.
I am careful, and I don't overdose. acetaminophen is after all a drug, like ibuprofen
Yes, it can be harmful to your liver. If anyone out there has taken acetaminophen (Tylenol) on a regular basis should get a Liver Function test done. This would be a precautionary step just to make sue there is no damage.
