Constant headache PLEASE HELP ME?

Question:
I have been having this headache 24/7 and I usually never get headaches. My headaches start in the base of my head and it is a throbbing pain and then goes to my jaw and then to my temples. My neck also gets so stiff from these headaches if I move it hurts even more. I feel like there is all this pressure on my head. When I stand up I am very dizzy and everything goes in black and then there is a ringing sound in both of my ears and I do get nausea and I have thrown up. I get very lightheaded too so because of this headache it is keeping me from doing my normal activities during the day. I have tried taking excedrin and Ibuprofen 800mg and nothing takes the headache away. These headaches also keep me from sleeping. It is so painful does anybody know what is wrong with me? I did schedule an appoinment with my doctor this week. But I am just so worried and concerned can somebody please help me?

Answer:
How long have you had it for? I am not sure why you are hesitating going to the doctor, but I would.

I was going to suggest that you were possibly suffering from dehydration as that causes throbbing headache which is all over UNTIL I read about the dizziness and partial blackouts with tinnitus.

This sounds like migraine with aura.

That means you have a migraine with other, physical symptoms as well.

And since Ibuprofen 800mg (you are only taking ONE of these a day, I hope?!?! Are they prescription as in the UK you are only sold 400mg over the counter and I am on 600mg via the doctor) is NOT working it appears quite reasonable to suspect migraine.

Migraine is not like a normal headache- in fact it is said to be the reverse. In a migraine there is too much blood flow whereas with an ordinary headache there is too little. So it stands to reason that medication designed to fight normally caused pain is not going to work.

While migraine is not life-threatening it is not possible to say if that is really what it is. I am not a headache sufferer but about three years ago was suddenly blind and then got a rather bad "headache" which wouldn't go away. I had mine for seven days but went to see my doctor as soon as I could see again- within the first three hours. I was a working mum with a school run to do and had a responsibility to me and my family to find out what it was.

If it is just a migraine then good. If it is something diferent (I hope not- the stiff neck is not good!) then you need to know.

Personally I would not "schedule" a visit but go now.

Let us know by updating when you are sorted? Please.

(edited to address your question to Slient Whisperer in case they don't get back to you!!!!: Menigitis is the inflammation of the brain lining and is a very dangerous condition which can be fatal (in very severe cases). I DON'T think it helps you to worry about having it but you DO need to rule it out because you DO have some, NOT ALL, of the symptoms, of menigitis. So please- do yourself a favour and phone now and ask about it again. They will ask you to do a few checks including checking for a rash. This rash is dark and, when pushed on with a clear water glass will not fade.

And again- let us know what you have done to sort this.

All the best.)
It could be food. Seriously. I used to have migraines constantly until I figured out that it was food additives, mostly MSG (it goes by alot of names). Go to MSGMYTH.com. I feel for you, good luck!
I think you should phone your doctor and tell him it's an emergency. If he/she can't see you immediately, I'd go to the emergency room at your nearest hospital. This could be something quite serious, and you need to find out what's going on!
Leave that guy alone!
dont goof around with your health at risk.

Go see a doc.
I recommend that you go and see a doctor asap. I think you may have meningitis, the symptoms seem very very simliar to the illness. Headaches (24/7) Dizzy, Pain on face and stiff neck, and being sick, lack of sleep.

I have had these symptoms myself and it was meningitis. My advice to you is, go and see a doctor.
Go to the emergency room NOW. And drink water. I get migrains when I don't drink enough water.
I suffered headaches for 25 years until I visit a chiropractor and found that I had 3 and 4 dislocated ribs pitching the nerves on the spine, 6 chiropractor treatments, and 5 min. Pilate's twice a week
and my headaches are history.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. The inflammation is usually caused by bacteria or viruses. Sometimes certain medications, cancers, or other diseases can inflame the meninges, although this is rare.

The complications of bacterial meningitis can be severe and include neurological problems such as hearing loss, visual impairment, seizures, and learning disabilities. The heart, kidneys, and adrenal glands may also be affected. It is highly contagious by the way.

If this disease is suspected, and you should see your doc asap if you do, he will order tests including a lumbar puncture to find the source of the disease within your body. But even before tests the patient is started on intravenous antibiotics because by then the patient is often unconscious. Hospitalization is the norm for this problem.

Treatment is usually aimed at relieving the symptoms. This includes rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain medication. When the disease is over, have the ears checked for permanent damage.

There you have your answer about meningitis.

As for your headaches, that does not sound like Meningitis to me, just plain terrifying. I am a strong woman who can take a lot of pain, but threaten me with a headache and I crumble.

Get you to a doctor soon.

You do not mention your age. Many times I have met people under 25 who suffer from terrible headaches that are alleviated once their impacted wisdom teeth are removed. That, to be honest, was my first thought

But get to the doc asap. If I had a headache like that, I would ride my PIG into the ER if necessary! I am concerned about everything going black and the stiff neck. Of course the stiff neck could also be due to enlarged lymph nodes that are located in that upper neck. That was always how I knew my younger child was coming down with something, a headache due to stiff neck due to swollen glands.

The added pressure of not knowing, of fretting, and the lack of sleep you suffer will add to your distress as well.

Please if you can post an update when you know what your situation was.

DID YOU SAY HIGH FEVER. DON'T WASTE TIME. GET TO A DOC OR ER. DO NOT WAIT FOR AN APPOINTMENT. PLEASE.
