does flonase work for colds also?

Question:

Answer:
NO- Flonase is NOT a cold remedy.
It is meant for long-term treatment of rhinitis/allergies, which are mediated by your immune cells, such as mast cells, inflammatory chemicals and cytokines llike histamines. Flonase is an anti-inflammatory agent fluticasone- similar to prednisone- and it suppresses these cells. Read the information that came with the drug and it will explain this further.
The cold virus is a common virus strain. If you suppress your immune system, the body will have fewer resources to fight off the cold infection, and it may prolong or worsen your cold symptoms.
Rest, lots of liquids and good hygiene to prevent re-infection are the best weapons against colds.
no
Absolutly not! As a matter of fact I have never found Flonase to work very good for anything except moistening the nasal cavuty. If your nose is stuffed up go to Wal Mart and buy some Equate brand nasal spray. Only use it 3-4 days but it's very good on nasal congestion!
No Flonase is only used for allergies. It is like a liquid bandaid that is sprayed into your nose and coats the inside of your nose to protect it from allergens. A cold is usually a viral infection of some kind. If your nose is stopped up from a cold then Nasonex can be used but only you are not supposed to use it for more than 48 hours.
Flonase will end up congesting your sinus passages even more. If you read the package it says that it's not for colds. Flonase is an allergy medicine- if it was meant to be a cold medicine then it would say so.
